A bit more than 6 years ago, I was introduced to PCA-Canada West Region in a really fun way… a good friend of mine said, “Hey… I’m a member of a car club and we’re doing a drive today… want to come along?" Of course I said… “are you kidding? That's like putting a kid in a candy store! I’m there!" I had no idea a Porsche, or many Porsche cars would be involved, which was my first delight; and then I met the club! I clearly remember meeting Jeff Rebiffe and Luis Brasdefer among the many others that early morning at Starbucks before the JCC Driver’s meeting. It was a room filled with a bunch of people who shared in common, a love of the brand (especially all the great Porsche attire), but it also quickly became clear that the club wasn’t the only common thread… it was also about the people and the friendships everyone enjoyed! Many were quick to engage me, and were more than happy to show me their cars… but also, they shared who they were as well, which made it easy to become… you know… friends! We had common interests other than Porsche, and so, new acquaintances became friendships, and the rest for me is part of my rich history with the club. The more I joined in, the more connected I became and the more fun I had! Not just club fun, but personal dinners, BBQs, Pinball (no kidding)… I even received help from a good friend in the club when I moved to Vancouver from Chilliwack! That’s a story in itself, but the point is, I had friendship and support that came from knowing someone I’d met in this amazing group! I can still honestly say, I’ve enjoyed the company of everyone to date!
Now, spring ahead 6ish years, and today, I find myself as your President; following in the footsteps of some pretty incredible leaders, some of whom led us through some tough times into what I think is quite possibly the best point our club has yet achieved. My deep appreciation extends to Brad, Matt, Jeff, Joel & Ray (and all the other Presidents past), who’ve not only helped guide us to where we are today, but also as wise friends who have been more than willing to support me as I transition in this new role! To our current Executive directors as well, Ann, Mike, Bruce, Nancy, Gerard, Matt & Brad, thank you for your enthusiasm and willingness to serve and support the club with your fantastic work and tireless effort! I can’t imagine taking this on without your help and guidance!
One of the first members I met recently asked me… “hey, 5 or so years ago when you joined… did you ever think you’d be Vice President?”… no, I didn’t, and I’m no less surprised to be serving you now as the new President… but there’s one thing I know for sure… what got us here is fantastic community! A community of people who are willing to serve each other, while having a heck of a lot of fun!
As we move forward, my goal is to work to ensure the energy, growth and friendships continue to flourish! I’ve served our club since joining, and each effort has brought so much more reward than I could have ever contributed! I’m writing this now, from the home of two people who have become very, very close, dear friends. Your mileage may vary, but if your experience is anything like mine, my guess is you’ll be creating your own memories, and deeply bonded relationships before you know it!
So, that said… It has been my honour to serve, and it’s now my honour and privilege to lead, as we continue to pursue our passion for these amazing cars, while creating new experiences together! Thank you for the many miles, memories, and friendships so far… and those yet to come!
